UPVC Tile Sheet

A tiled appearance in plastic

UPVC tile sheet is pressed to a tile profile for pitched and residential roofs, and is often asked for as kavla UPVC sheet. It gives the appearance of a tiled roof with none of the weight and none of the individual tile handling.

Against a metal tile sheet, which achieves a similar look, the difference is corrosion. UPVC does not rust at all, so on a coastal house or near a chemical process it holds its appearance where a coated steel tile profile eventually will not.

Where it suits

Farmhouses, resorts, villas, porches, verandas and the visible parts of commercial buildings. It is a finish product, chosen because the roof is seen.

It also suits re-roofing over an old tiled roof where the existing structure cannot take the weight of new clay tiles. A sheet weighing a fraction of the tiles it replaces removes that constraint.

Pitch and drainage

As with any tile profile, the steps rely on pitch to move water. Too shallow a pitch holds water at the steps, and standing water eventually finds a fixing.

Because the sheets come in lengths rather than as individual tiles, a run can often be covered without a lap at all, which removes the most common leak point on a tiled roof.

Colour and UV

The top layer carries the UV resistance and the colour. On a roof this visible, that layer is what decides whether the roof still looks right in five years or has gone chalky and faded on the sun-facing slope.

This is where the difference between a multilayer sheet and a cheap single layer one shows most obviously, because fading is visible from the ground in a way that a corroding industrial roof is not.

Fixing

UPVC moves with temperature more than steel. Oversized holes, fasteners set firm but not crushed, and fixing through the correct part of the profile. On a visible roof, over-tightened fixings also show as dimples across the surface.
